MOBILE RADIATION WHO IARC agency announced yesterday that they expect the mobile and DECT phones, or wireless telelefoner, can cause malignant brain tumor. The fact that mobile phone use increases the risk of cancer has been made clear reason why the risk increases have been toned down to be found in the enormous economic interests at stake in the assessment of cell phone cancer risks. It writes journalist Mona Nilsson.

WHO-IARC agency announced yesterday that they expect the mobile and DECT phones, ie wireless telelefoner, can cause malignant brain tumor.
They base their conclusion on studies showing that mobile and DECT phone use increases the risk of brain tumors.

Over a week has 31 researchers reviewed almost all research in mobile radiation and cancer.
The studies that are primarily now forms the basis of positions adopted by the IARC and highlighted during the press conference in Lyon on 31 May, was epidemiological studies of cancer doctor Lennart Hardell of Örebro University Hospital and the results from the international WHO-study Interphone, published in May 2010.

In the latter study was presented in Sweden, said professors at the Karolinska Institute, Anders Ahlbom and Maria Feychting, that it did not show any increased risk.
This led in turn to that most Swedish media incorrectly a year ago reported that the study showed that cell phone does not cause cancer and that P1 tomorrow still June 1, 2011 claimed that the study would not show any increased risk.

I have repeated in articles last year pointed out that the study actually showed an increased brain tumor risk to today's normal user and project manager for the study believed that the findings were worrying as they showed that today's ordinary users are at increased risk.
The reason why the risk increases toned down to be found in the enormous economic interests at stake in the assessment of cell phone cancer risks.

Professor Anders Ahlbom was supposed to lead the now conducted epidemiological evaluation of cancer, IARC, but left his expert chair at the last moment before the meeting starts. Reason: I could reveal that he had formed a consulting company with his brother, Gunnar Ahlbom AB, where he was both signatories as a director. The firm would be under the manual system to target its services, including lobbying and public relations, specifically to the telecommunications industry.
In addition, his brother worked for TeliaSonera in Brussels in less than 13 years.

The IARC classification means a total rejection of Professors Anders Ahlbom and Maria Feychting message to the authorities, media and public in recent years. Anders Ahlbom said, for example, in an interview with Swedish Radio (Body and Soul) in February 2011: "Interphone will show the same things as any other research has shown previously that there is nothing to fear".
In other contexts, he claims that research has not shown any risk at all during all the years we researched the health risks of mobile telephony.

The IARC assessment the stands also in stark contrast to the Radiation Safety Authority, SSM, messages which in turn refers to assessments that Anders Ahlbom made to the Authority for eight years. Ahlbom has also led all other investigations carried out in Sweden (Council for Working Life and Social Research, FAS).
SSM argues that DECT phones are harmless.

It is high time that the SSM and, FAS, appoints new truly independent and impartial experts, since during the 2000s used the services of experts in shocking conflicts of interest. There is also a rush to set up a parliamentary investigation of SSM's miserable and clearly the mobile industry to turn cellular risk management issue for many years. SSM has failed to inform the public that research for several years have seen an increased risk of malignant brain tumor. SSM has also, in a scandalous manner, completely ignored the alarming findings of Hardell of particular high-risk youth.
Instead, the authority's representative argued that children and young people would not be particularly sensitive to radiation "in any way", a stance that is almost unique in the world.

We have lost many years of prevention efforts by providing information and protection of the public who instead are tricked into believing that the mobile phone and DECT phone friskrivits from brain cancer risk and therefore use them without limits, as well as virtually all children and adolescents in Sweden. What are the consequences?
We know that brain tumors often have a 10 year latency.

The responsibility rests heavily on Radiation Protection Authority, Government, the mobile industry and Anders Ahlbom and colleagues at the Karolinska Institute. The responsibility also rests heavily on the influential media who are not critically examined whether experts or authorities - despite the obvious and repeated lies and ties to industry. And cancer is unfortunately far from the only health risk with cell phone radiation.

Cell phone study raises profile on safety lawsuits

* U.S. high court deciding whether to tackle cell lawsuit

* Hundreds of cases could be impacted -- plaintiff lawyer

* Activity comes amid fresh WHO report on health risks

By Dan Levine

SAN FRANCISCO, June 1 (Reuters) - The U.S. Supreme Court is considering the
fate of litigation against cell phone makers over safety risks, just as the
industry comes under more scrutiny in the wake of a health report from the
World Health Organisation.

A working group of WHO cancer experts suggested on Tuesday that cell phone
use should be classified as "possibly carcinogenic" after reviewing of all
the available scientific evidence.

The classification puts mobile phone use in the same broad cancer risk
category as lead, chloroform and coffee, and it garnered extensive media
coverage. Industry groups immediately sought to play down the announcement,
saying it does not mean that cell phones cause cancer.

The report comes as a proposed class action lawsuit against 19 defendants,
mostly cell phone manufacturers and telecommunications companies, has landed
at the U.S. Supreme Court. The defendants -- which include Nokia (NOK1V.HE),
AT&T Inc (T.N) and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS) -- are accused of
misrepresenting that their cell phones are safe, when they in fact knew of
potential dangers.

A lower appeals court dismissed the lawsuit, saying the plaintiffs' claims
were preempted by federal law. But on Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court
formally asked the U.S. Justice Department to weigh in on whether the high
court should hear the plaintiffs' appeal.

Allison Zieve, who represents the plaintiffs, said people often dismiss
allegations about the harm of common products as "silly." The WHO report
could change that perception, said Zieve, director of Public Citizen
Litigation Group, a consumer advocacy organization.

"I hope that it signals to the Justice Department ... that it's a
potentially significant case and they should take it seriously," she said.

An AT&T spokesman declined to answer questions about the case and
representatives from Nokia and Samsung did not respond to a request for
comment.

The lawsuit seeks damages and an injunction, including a requirement that
the companies provide headsets to customers.

Joanne Suder, a Baltimore-based plaintiff attorney, said she had "hundreds"
of cell phone cases on hold pending the U.S. Supreme Court's actions in the
coming months. Her clients are seeking monetary damages, Suder said.

Paul Freehling, who represents the Cellular Telecommunications Industry
Association, said he does not know of any cases where a court has found
sufficient scientific evidence of a link between cell phones and cancer.

In one case, a U.S. appeals court upheld the dismissal of a lawsuit against
Motorola in 2003, finding that the plaintiffs could not demonstrate that
cell phones caused malignant brain tumors.

"Based on previous assessments of the scientific evidence, the Federal
Communications Commission has concluded that '[t]here's no scientific
evidence that proves that wireless phone usage can lead to cancer,'" said
CTIA vice president John Walls on Tuesday.

But Suder forecast that, after this week, reports about the dangers of cell
phone will only increase.

"I think at this point the genie is finally out of the bottle," she added.

Skelton, Taintor & Abbott Wins Landmark Smart Meter Case

May 25, 2011

On behalf of several Maine residents,  Skelton, Taintor & Abbott secured a landmark decision that will benefit  utility customers throughout the country. Alan Stone, chair of the firm's energy law group, successfully convinced the Maine Public Utilities Commission (MPUC) to find that it was an unjust and unreasonable practice for Central Maine Power Company (CMP) to refuse to permit residential and small commercial customers to opt-out of CMP's smart meter program.

Skelton, Taintor & Abbott represented a group of customers in a complaint against CMP, and convinced the MPUC to order CMP to offer customers the option of opting out of the smart meter program and retaining their existing electromagnetic meters. Stone proved that because of unresolved concerns relating to health, privacy and cyber security resulting from the installation of wireless meters on their homes, customers should have a choice concerning the installation of those meters.   CMP argued vigorously that customers should not be allowed to opt out, and the MPUC found that position to be unjust and unreasonable.

The Portland Press Herald has described the decision as a "landmark" case that represents the first time any state had ordered an electric utility to permit customers the choice to opt out of a smart meter program.  The case has been followed by other Public Utilities Commissions and utility experts around the country, and will serve as precedent for others in the determination of how to resolve what has become a growing debate about customer choice and smart meters.

Alan Stone is also chair of the trial practice group at Skelton, Taintor and Abbott, and has been recognized by Best Lawyers in the area of Energy Law.

Menlo Park nixes T-Mobile cell tower in park

Mr. Hart sees Menlo Park's decision as a sign of things to come. "As residents and elected officials become more aware of the health threat posed by wireless radiation, including cell phones, towers, wi-fi and smart meters, we expect that this is just the beginning of a widespread backlash against wireless technology," he said.
